Christensen and Kessie flatly reject Barcelona’s request

The sporting department, together with the financial directors, of Barcelona continues to work intensively on reducing the salary bill which must be reduced by 200 million in order to be in line with the rules of financial fair play in La Liga. Although some of the solutions needed to achieve the goal are planned, most of them have not yet been implemented.

The effort required by the club goes in all directions and no type of scenario is excluded, so the club’s top managers never miss an opportunity to try to cut back. Nobody escapes the basic policy of cuts so that Barcelona can continue to build a successful project.

Even players who have only been at the Camp Nou for a year have been asked to reduce their salaries. Among the many meetings and negotiations that took place, the sports administration did not hesitate to convey the request to reduce salaries to Frank Kessie and Andreas Christensen.

The goal was to directly see how they both assessed the request, even though the response was not positive.

The centre-back and midfielder both know their commitment to the project is unquestionable as they arrived last summer without transfer fees and have withstood pressure from their former clubs, Chelsea and AC Milan, respectively.

In addition, they had other offers and prioritized wearing the Barcelona shirt over any other option. Finally, they accepted without problems the appropriateness of the salary scale imposed by the club when signing contracts.

Casey and Christensen know that the club’s economy is going through a difficult time, but it was also the case last summer, and since then, they have not completed a full year of their contract, so they consider that this is not the right time to ask for a reduction in their salary. The club, in this situation, has no choice but to comply with what has been signed and to look for alternative solutions.
